The nation's top-ranked team lost for the second straight Saturday (Alabama on Oct 10 and Ohio State on Oct 17), sending more than few 'shockwaves' through the polls. The 2010 Heisman 'race' has felt a few 'rattles' as well and my latest Heisman report follows. 1) KELLEN MOORE (Boise State) Last Week: 2. Boise State scored TDs on its first three drives Saturday night at San Jose State. It was 41-0 at the half, as Kellen... Read more

The first month of the season closed with the AP's preseason top-three in the rankings unchanged. Alabama remains No. 1, followed by Ohio State and Boise State. Those three schools are all led by legitimate Heisman contenders, Alabama RB Mark Ingram (last year's winner), Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor (my preseason favorite) and Boise State QB Kellen Moore (a modest 29-1 as a starting QB along with a 46-4 TD-to-INT ratio... 2010 Heisman Preview

08/27/2010 2:34 PM ·

I've always loved the Heisman, as in spite of all its warts and blemishes, it remains the most recognized and arguably the most-cherished individual award in any sport. I began doing a weekly Heisman top-10 on my nationally-syndicated radio show ("Bally's Sports Central") in the early to mid-90s and have continued it on the internet since (my weekly Heisman update was available online every Monday during the CFB season... Final Heisman Update

12/11/2009 1:05 PM ·

I featured my Heisman preview back in late August and pointed out the obvious. The 2008 Heisman was won by Oklahoma's Sam Bradford with Colt McCoy of Texas finishing second and Florida's Tim Tebow (the 2007 winner) finishing third, despite garnering more first-place votes than either Bradford or McCoy. With all three players back for the 2009 season, it would be a year like no other in Heisman history. Tebow became the... Read more

Heisman Trophy (12/1)

12/01/2009 1:09 PM ·

The 2009 Heisman race was never expected to include more than three players, 2008 winner Sam Bradford, 2008 runner-up Colt McCoy and 2007 winner Tim Tebow (Tebow also received more first-place votes in 2008 than either Bradford or McCoy). Bradford basically dropped out on the season's first Saturday with an injury while McCoy has not quite matched his spectacular 2008 season with Tebow falling way short of the numbers... Read more

Heisman Watch (11/17)

The 2008 Heisman was won by Oklahoma's Sam Bradford with Colt McCoy (Texas ) of Texas finishing second and Florida's Tim Tebow (the 2007 winner) finishing third, despite garnering more first-place votes than either Bradford or McCoy. Never before has a college football season opened a year in which two Heisman winners were active. With all three players back for the 2009 season, the Heisman 'race' was a clear-cut three... Heisman Watch (11/3)

11/04/2009 1:03 PM ·

Tim Tebow played like a Heisman Trophy contender this past Saturday in Florida's annual "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" vs Georgia, arguably for the first time this season (save his game-winning drive vs Arkansas). Colt McCoy of Texas, last year's Heisman runner-up to Oklahoma's Sam Bradford (out for the season after shoulder surgery), led a Texas offense which was held to under 300 yards for the second time... Heisman Watch (10/27)

10/27/2009 2:05 PM ·

When I woke up Monday morning at 6:00 AM my DSL was out and it didn't come back up until 2:00 PM. About an hour later, my power went out for two hours. By that time I was into my third glass of wine, so I decided to postpone my Heisman Watch until Tuesday. I only bring this up because "my Monday" reminds me of the way this year's Heisman 'race' has gone. Not much has gone as expected and all in all, it's been a major... Read more

Heisman Watch (Oct 19)

10/19/2009 2:46 PM ·

The 2009 season began with all three of last year's Heisman top vote-getters active. Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) was the '08 winner, Colt McCoy (Texas) was the runner-up and Tim Tebow (Florida) finished third but garnered the most first-place votes (not to mention being the '07 Heisman winner). This year's Heisman 'race' seemed certain to be limited to a three-man field. So much for "best laid plans." Bradford threw for... Read more
